Dyson CameraJet: Can an AI Toothbrush Really Replace Flossing?

By Carling Dental ·

An analysis of Dyson’s newly released CameraJet AI smart toothbrush.

Dyson’s CameraJet combines a built-in micro-camera, machine-learning computer vision and a targeted microfluidic mouthrinse jet designed to detect gaps between teeth in real time. We look at whether automated water and fluid flossing can replace the mechanical friction of dental floss and interdental brushes.

Clinical verdict: while innovative for patient compliance, automated fluid jets cannot completely replace the mechanical shearing force needed to dislodge sticky, mature dental biofilm in tight contact points. We recommend it as a supplemental tool rather than a total replacement for manual interdental cleaning.

Invisalign vs Ceramic Braces vs Traditional Braces: Which One is Right for You?

By Carling Dental ·

A comparative orthodontic guide for adult and adolescent patients.

Choosing a way to straighten your teeth depends on your bite, your lifestyle and how visible you would like your treatment to be.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners

Removable, virtually invisible trays. Ideal for mild-to-moderate alignment issues and patients wanting lifestyle flexibility; requires strict 20–22 hours a day wear.

Ceramic Braces

Fixed tooth-coloured or clear brackets. The continuous force of traditional braces with reduced visual contrast; brackets are slightly more fragile and need careful oral hygiene.

Traditional Metal Braces

High-grade stainless steel fixed appliances. The gold standard for complex bite problems, severe rotations and vertical discrepancies; highly durable and cost-effective.

What Is EMS AIRFLOW® and Guided Biofilm Therapy? A Complete Guide to Modern Dental Hygiene

By Carling Dental ·

A deep dive into the 8-step Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) protocol using EMS AIRFLOW® technology.

Dental biofilm is a structured colony of bacteria that causes gingivitis and decay. Guided Biofilm Therapy begins with a disclosing phase: a purple disclosing solution visually highlights invisible biofilm before any cleaning starts.

The AIRFLOW® handpiece then uses a controlled stream of warm water, compressed air and fine erythritol-based powder (14 μm particle size) to painlessly remove biofilm above and below the gum line, soft deposits and surface stains – without scratching enamel or sensitive root surfaces.

While AIRFLOW® reveals your natural tooth brightness by removing stains, it is a hygiene treatment rather than a chemical bleaching or whitening procedure.

Can Stress Affect Your Teeth?

By Carling Dental ·

How psychological stress and raised cortisol affect the mouth.

  • Bruxism and clenching: involuntary night or day grinding can flatten cusps, crack teeth, cause abfraction lesions and morning jaw pain.
  • TMJ dysfunction: pain and clicking in the jaw joint.
  • Gum vulnerability: chronic stress suppresses the immune response, worsening gum inflammation and bleeding.
  • Mouth ulcers and dry mouth: canker sores (aphthous ulcers) and xerostomia.

How we help: custom nightguards and splints, stress reduction advice and more frequent hygiene monitoring.

What Makes Harley Street One of the World’s Most Trusted Medical Destinations?

By Carling Dental ·

The historical, architectural and clinical evolution of Harley Street in Marylebone, London.

Harley Street’s origins trace back to 1711, when Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford, and architect John Prince developed Cavendish Square and the Marylebone grid. The area remains under the stewardship of the Howard de Walden Estate.

By 1914 it was established as Britain’s elite medical enclave, thanks to its grand Georgian townhouses with spacious consulting rooms, proximity to major rail terminals and a concentration of leading medical and surgical specialists.

3 Non-Negotiables Habits for Healthy Teeth: A Dentist’s Guide to Daily Oral Hygiene

By Carling Dental ·

Our foundational daily routine, featuring dental hygienist Daniela Bovolenta.

  1. Effective brushing: twice daily for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Use gentle pressure to prevent gum recession and enamel wear – focus on technique, not force.
  2. Interdental cleaning before brushing: use correctly sized interdental brushes (such as TePe) or dental floss to clear biofilm between teeth before you brush.
  3. A consistent preventive routine: keep up regular six-month check-ups and hygiene appointments to catch silent decay and early gum disease.
